The Paxtons Support Twestival

I just found out about this and am compelled to get the word out. If you're on Twitter, then @twestival needs your support!

What's Twestival?

On February 12, 2009 175+ cities around the world will be hosting Twestivals which will bring together communities for an evening of fun, while raising money and awareness for charity:water.

Charity:Water has a simple mission: Bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. It was founded by Scott Harrison, a former club and fashion events promoter in NYC.

Harrison lived life in excess, but found himself to be unhappy and in need of change. So he asked himself, "What [does] the opposite of my life look like?"

After being offered a position of ship photojournalist, Harrison was on his way to Africa where he was, "astonished at the poverty." The result was charity:water.

Even if you aren't on Twitter, here's what you can do:

- Attending one of the events in your city
- Uploading or buying music at Twestival.fm
- Taking part in the t-shirt design competition
- Donating to charity: water

The respective Twestivals are organized 100% by volunteers in cities around the world and 100% of the money raised from these events will go directly to support charity: water projects.

Giving Back

As many of you know, I have been working with The Paxtons over the last 4-5 months on numerous projects. The really dope thing about working with them is their dedication to giving back to the African Diaspora. I guess that's why uploading a song to the event's website was so important.

But rather than me explain their interest, I figured I get them on the phone and ask them a few questions.

Why get involved?

Chris: We wanted to do our part to draw attention to healthier living in '09- not just here, but all over the word. We also feel like mainstream media only highlights the negatives in these situations, so we wanted to do our part of changing the negative into a positive.

What is it about Free Your Mind '09 that speaks to the cause of Twestival and charity:water?

Chris: While Free Your Mind '09 wasn't written specifically with this cause in mind, we do like to talk about the plight of the common man.

Dave: The gift of music is being able to communicate personal sentiment to the world that invokes change and influences others in a positive way.

Chris: Right! We also know that this is bigger than just us. Like in my verse I say, "I fantisize like what if I aint hafta worry bout the way the world is goin'/ Rent check steady comin'/doors to all my goals is swung open/countin' all the foreclosures/somethin' tellin' me Obama aint the only one hopin'. If you recall, when Obama won the nomination, you saw people all around the world celebrating. That was hope! If uploading our song can inspire even one percent of that, we would be extremely thrilled.

Where will you be on February 12 or what will you be doing to get the word out about this cause?

Dave: Hopefully, we can get in contact with the person organizing the [Twestival] in DC to see how we can support the event. Other than that, we are going to blast our fans with the information and ask them to donate to the cause.
