The Root(s) of Late Night

I kind of forgot about this, but Kweli's site hit me with the perfect reminder.

As much as I'm looking forward to this, I hope it ends better than Branford Marsalis and Jay Leno.

For those of you that don't remember, Marsalis' band was the original band on The Tonight Show when Leno originally took over. And if memory serves me correctly, Marsalis left because he didn't want or feel the need to be Leno's stool pigeon laughing at all of his jokes. If you've seen Kevin Eubanks on Leno over the years, then you know what I mean.

I doubt Fallon and The Roots will go through the same thing, but something tells me Black Thought isn't the one to just laugh for a check's sake. Especially when The Roots tour around the world to sold out shows in every city.

Either way, The Roots have my respect and I wish them the best and exposure to last them another 15+ years. And props to Fallon or whoever at NBC had the idea of approaching The Roots with this opportunity.

Shouts again to Kweli for the link to this video!
