Real Ish

As much as I like a lot of the new age HipHop that gets featured on this site, there is nothing better than hearing the classic joints I grew up listening to. With his latest mix, Jerome Baker III takes an hour-long trip down memory lane by pulling together songs from the 80's and 90's that I hadn't heard in a long minute. According to Baker, this mix represents, "Good music. Videos on The Box, Video Music Box, or MTV when it was good."

Featuring classics from the likes of DJ DMD, Cru, Mic Geronimo, Royal Flush and O.C.*, the best thing about this mix is that it doesn't feature the usual suspects from the 80s and 90s. Sometimes I feel like DJs get lazy by putting together mixes that feature the same joints time and time again. Don't get me wrong, I love the songs just the same as everyone else. But there are soooo many songs that get left out. It's great to see a DJ drop a "remember this" type mix.

* For those of you that are looking at that list and saying, "who the hell are those people," I don't know what to tell you. Take a few minutes to download the mix and do the knowledge. You will be pleasantly surprised by some of the other songs and artists featured in the mix including Showbiz & A.G.'s Soul Clap, Main Source's Live from the BBQ and Eric B. & Rakim's Know the Ledge.
