To simply say that the Internet changed the music business would be one of the biggest understatements of the year. As the net has become more integrated in our lives, things like social media allow artists to connect with fans across the globe in a way that was hardly imagined as little as 15 years ago.
In celebration of the independent spirit, the D.M.V.'s own SMCity created The Indie Life: Concert Series to serve as a platform to showcase and highlight independent artists on a national scale and those making their way towards it. The first edition of this series brings Detroit's Black Milk to U Street Music Hall on Sunday, February 13. Performing alongside Black Milk will be SMCity, Gods'Illa and X.O.
Tickets to the show are available now. Cop yours here.
To give fans a little something to prepare them for the show, SMCity teamed up with DJ 2 Tone Jones for the first volume of The Indie Life: Concert Series Mixtape. The tape features a mixture of songs from the artists set to perform on the 13th.

Last summer SMCity released a Streets Is Watching-like film to coincide with the release of his album, The Indie Life. Check out the 18-minute clip, which features a mixture of music videos and story-connecting vignettes.
