I grew up on DJs rocking vinyl, so I remember when everything started transitioning to the digital format. As something of a "purist" at the time, I remember thinking that any DJ no longer mixing actual records was suspect. But that's an anti-progression type of mindset.
Technology, when deployed correctly, is progress. DJs now have an infinite amount of songs at their disposal at any given time without having to have someone carrying 50-11 crates of records. And as technology has moved beyond laptops, it's imperative for DJs to keep up with the times. That's why Apple created the new DJ app for the iPad. Check out DJ Scratch showing how it's done:
