Event: ReSOULtion

Just in time for your New Year's Eve planning, Modi and his DCtoBC crew are back with another event. This time around, he's bringing together the best of both worlds - a concert immediately followed by an after party.

Everything my brain is telling me suggests that there will be a whole lot of women in the place to be. That alone has me trying to figure out what I'm wearing.

For tickets to the concert and/or the party, cop your tickets here.

Event: Kicks For Kids Charity Shoe Drive Concert

Every year around this time Ian "iCan" Callender brings together corporate sponsors, artists, athletes, chefs and the community at-large all in the name of charity. In this case, the donations center on much-coveted sneakers for kids in the DC-metro area. This year makes no different as Kicks for Kids is back again.

In a community collaborative with adidas, the Sneaker Suite and Shoe City team up to bring you their 6th annual Kicks for Kids Charity Shoe Drive & Concert. This year the program supports the youth of Sasha Bruce Youthwork, Safe Shores DC Children’s Advocacy Center via #SantaCause and the Jr. Board of Administration nonprofit organizations, who all will receive some holiday cheer in the form of new sneakers for Christmas.
While we shop for gifts for family members, friends, significant others and co-workers, make sure you include those that are less fortunate on your list. If you call yourself a sneaker head, this is the perfect way to do it. And you get a concert out of it to boot (pun intended).

Tickets, which includes your donation, for the concert are on sale now. If you would like to support the cause but can't make the concert, you can donate at the Shoe City locations at Iverson Mall or Mondawmin Mall in Baltimore.

Keep Going to check out highlights from last year's event, including participation from Washington Wizard star point guard, John Wall, and MMG's Meek Mill.

In need of a cool ass mix for these cold ass days and nights. Check out this dope one by Whitney AbstraKt. The songs are simultaneously familiar and fresh and the transitions keep you in a groove.

Out of Office for #JuugSeason

DJ Spicoli and Tastefaker have been behind some of the coolest events in the city this year. Next weekend they continue the run with Out of Office at Penn Social.

In separate but related news Spicoli dropped a new mix today as well. #JuugSeason is filled with nothing but bangers straight from the trap. And it's hosted by none other than Breaking Bad's Walter White. If you need something to keep your energy up as these temperatures continue to drop, grab your favorite drink, download #JuugSeason and get to bouncing those shoulders as you make your meanest mug.

Surprise Party DC: Howard Homecoming Edition

Howard Homecoming seems like eons ago, so this video is a great reminder of an ill weekend in general and a dope ass party in particular. Plus, I make an appearance in the vid so I had to post.

Next time Jabari and the Surprise Party roll through DC, make sure you're there. In the meantime, if you're in or going to be in NYC on November 30, you might want to cop a ticket.

The Mad Decent Block Party 2013

Check out scenes from this year's festivities as well as a quick trip down memory with Diplo and the Mad Decent crew:

It's crazy what they've been able to accomplish in 5 yrs. And the fact that the growth was organic makes it even doper. If you've attended any of these block parties, make a case of why my old ass should be there in 2014 and it just might happen.

Shout out to Urbanears on the documentary!

Pro'verb: Wait No More

Going down tonight!!!

Come check out Pro'verb as he presents his new mixtape While You're Waiting live tonight at Martin's Lounge. As a special treat for all lovers of live instrumentation, the always dope Sound of the City band will be backing Pro as he performs songs from the mixtape and some of your favorite joints from previous projects and collabs.

As you can see, Pro won't be holding down the stage alone. RAtheMC, one of the dopest females in the game, and Ressa Renee and her sweet and sultry voice will also giving the fans something to talk about as the city heads into Howard Homecoming mode.

Cover for the event is $10. In addition to entry, you'll also receive a copy of While You're Waiting. If you can't wait until tonight, you can also find the mixtape over at DJ Booth.

Rock Creek Social Club: DJ Lil Mic

Is it possible to have more fun on a Tuesday night than on Saturday? It is if you're at Rock Creek Social Club's #GoodLifeTuesdays party at Recess.

Two weeks ago, I told you Sterofaith's B-Day was going to be crazy. Here's the proof:

This week B-More's own DJ Lil Mic will be rocking the 1's and 2's on what is sure to be another night of dopeness at it's finest.

Amber Mimz: Urban Romantic

Tomorrow is forecast to be a nice day, which means you'll probably be out and about enjoying the weather and the sights around the city. If you happen to be out shopping tomorrow evening in Georgetown, take a few hours out of day and spend them with one of the dopest songstresses in the D.M.V.

For the first time ever, Amber Mimz will be performing at the Apple store in Georgetown from 7-9PM.

The event is free99, so you have no reason not to check out what is guaranteed to be a great show.

To see Mimz's latest video and a performance at SOB's in NYC...

Community Service

Guess how I'm spending my Saturday afternoon?

Even though I've neither been asked nor told that I was invited, I've decided to lend my support to a very worthy cause this weekend. The vast majority of the posts on this site highlight music and artists, but that doesn't mean I'm not socially conscious or aware of what's going on in society.

I've been mentoring (I hope that's what I'm doing) a kid from Baltimore over the last year, and now I'm expanding my community service initiatives to include one of the most damning things crippling our society. And rather than wax poetically about this tragedy from the comfort of my computer chair, I'm putting my time and expertise where my mouth is.

This Saturday from 1PM to 4PM at Jordan's Paradise Dance Studio, I'm going to be on-hand along with Chrissy T and A Choice Management for their very first Model Boot Camp.

Yes, that's right, folks. Ghostface Marcus is a man of the people, especially when said people are models. As a man who has studied many a model in my 30+ years, I recognize the rigors of being a model. And I also understand what it takes to be a model. That's why I'll be at the studio giving the kind of pointers that only a qualified professional such as myself can provide.

In case you're not aware of my resume, allow me to present my areas of expertise:
  • Fluffers: The lost art of photo shoot readiness
  • Hot or Not: Picking the right outfit
  • No Teeth: Ensuring the absence of food and other reasons why teeth can be problematic
  • Walking: Hating that you leaving, while loving to see you walk away
You know the most awesome-est (yes, it's a word...that I made up) thing about volunteering to help these models get to the next level? The fact that I'm probably the only straight dude who thought about volunteering his "services" for the event.

I Joke, I Kid

Please disregard all of the above information with the exception of the date and times. Unless you're slow or you think I was extremely convincing (thanks!), it should be obvious that I have nothing to do with this event. I am just the messenger in this regard. I'll be doing something completely manly like playing flag football (and watching all my female teammates run around in tight Under Armour gear) while this event is taking place.
The Real Deal

Chrissy and Barbara have come up with a great idea to help models of all levels of experience learn and develop their skills in the following areas: make up basics, runway, health & fitness and posing for the camera. The event starts at 1PM and goes until 4PM. Pre-registration ($20) is encouraged, but day of registrations ($30) are also welcomed.

This event is being sponsor by DCTellAll, Dollhouse Magazine, 4DG Productions, and Fuze Beverages.

If you're an aspiring model, this is where you should be on Saturday (even if I won't be there to fluff).

Rock Creek Social Club: Stereofaith's B-Day

Q: How crazy is this going to be tonight?

A: Very

The Indie Life: Second Edition

Just as the post title indicates, the second edition of The Indie Life Concert Series is here. Tonight's featured artist is none of other than Freeway, the bearded former Roc-A-Fella MC that gained his first national notoriety with a song stealing verse on Jay-Z's 1-900-Hustler.

Also hitting the stage will be the DMV's own, Black Cobain (The Board Administration, KingPen Slim (Beam Up) and SmCity (Twenty20).

Last month's kick off was dope. Don't believe me? See it for yourself.

This month's concert has no reason not to be equally as dope.

The Indie Life: Concert Series, [presented by Twenty20, Life Massive & Cool Kids Forever Films], is the creation of Hip Hop artist SmCity (URB Mag NEXT 100, SXSW performer, Owner of Twenty20 Music & Films). Being a well respected artist/entrepreneur based in the DC/MD/VA (DMV) area he realized that there needed to be a platform to showcase the indie talent in the correct light. His goal is to bring a nationally known headlining act to Washington, DC every month and pair them with some of the most decorated indie artist in the DMV.

Tickets for the event can be purchased here.

Devin White: Up Close & Personal

Going down tonight:

Up Close & Personal: The Devin White Experience will take place tonight at Go Mama Go (1809 14th St NW) at 8pm. The show will also feature performances by vocalist Meche Korrect and hip hop MC Nate Greyski.

If you're not familiar with White, you can check out his latest project iCRed and download it here.
